At the beginning of the season, each team will receive their expected tournament calendar dates. It is expected that most players will also play in their local Little League; therefore, tournaments will be scheduled around Little League calendars as much as predictably possible. This often means that tournaments will be scheduled on holidays. Expected tournaments for the season include President’s Day weekend, spring break, Easter weekend, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, and Labor Day. As the season progresses, additional tournament dates maybe identified and scheduled. Games are scheduled on both Saturdays and Sundays (with game times as early as 8:00am and going into the late afternoon/evenings). Game time schedules are always posted a few days before the start of that particular tournament weekend. The President’s Day, Labor Day, and Memorial Day weekends are potential three-day tournaments. Players and families typically stay overnight in a local, reasonably-priced hotel during tournaments, although this is not a requirement.
As families commit to specific tournaments, the Head Coach will then determine if there are enough players (10-12) to participate in the tournament and – if too many players – which players will be selected to play. This process will be done with as much advance notice as possible for family planning purposes. The Head Coach may consider any of the following when selecting players for a scheduled tournament: 1) practice attendance 2) effort, 3) attitude, 4) positions needed for that tournament, 5) ability. If the team is only short 1-2 players to field a team for a given tournament, the Head Coach may recruit from the practice squad to fill out the roster for that specific tournament.
